There is a direct relationship between vehicular retail and end-of-life vehicles (ELV) generation as the present vehicles will generate ELVs in the future. The number of ELVs were observed to follow a linear trend, on a similar trend the 2.8 million ELVs were projected to be added each year and a total of 46.8 million ELVs by 2030. The objective of this discussion paper is look at the current scenario and policy landscape and the associated challenges in India. The paper gives recommendations based on international experiences and derived learnings from various stakeholder consultations.
