ZET Technologies: An Ecosystem Perspective

Date:

Smart Freight Centre (SFC) India held a successful workshop in Chennai on August 22nd, focusing on the technological barriers and stakeholder-specific actions needed for the transition to Zero Emission Trucks (ZET) under NITI Aayog’s e-FAST platform. Building on previous workshops in Mumbai and Delhi, this event gathered key stakeholders to discuss freight decarbonization and the e-truck transition.

Key Highlights:

  • High upfront costs remain a barrier despite long-term savings offered by e-trucks.

  • OEM challenges slow large-scale deployment due to limited planning.

  • Strategic deployment in proven use cases will drive effective ZET adoption.

  • Advances in battery technology, including improved energy density and cooling systems, are essential for cost reduction.

  • A reliable service network is crucial for maintaining ZETs on Indian roads.

  • Lower battery prices and unified standards will strengthen supply chains and accelerate adoption.

  • Fast charging infrastructure and a robust supply chain are key for scalability.

  • ZETs must be affordable and cost-effective for mass adoption and profitability.
